Fallen People

Recently there has been a series of high profile personalities being exposed for their sinful indiscretions. They are people at the top of their professions and greatly idolised by many. But when they fall from the pedestal, they are quickly condemned and rejected by these same set of worshipers. People never seem to have enough of the juicy stories and are 'Google-ing' for more. It's just like a feeding frenzy in a pool of hungry pirahnas!

I admit that I too have my own list of fallen heroes! People that I admire (especially when they claim to be Christians!) who failed to live up to my expectations. We may console ourselves that we are not like them and that as Christians we don't do the kind of things that they do. We may even judge them. Yes, I know that we are not supposed to do that!

The question is: Are we capable of doing some of these things like violence, lying, infidelity and cheating? How should we treat those who have fallen? How then would you like to be treated when you fall from grace? Let me know what you think!

  1. As human, all of us are capable of doing some of these things like violence, lying, etc. For lies we tend to justify them.... white lies no harm! ma coz we are not hurting anyone but remember, it is still a sin.
To fall from grace.... is something I dont think anyone can handle,I for one will need all the support from my loved ones, relatives and friends and especially God's mercy to touch me in order to be able to stand up and feel whole. It will be a pretty long healing process, but pride can stand in our way and we will never be able to admit it. Let none of us fall from grace but let us be united and help each other with our Lord beside us to guide and protect all of us from the devil. In God we trust.. amen

  2. A speaker at a local seminary shocked his students by admitting that he was capable of stealing, lying, cheating, infidelity, violence and so on. He said that his starting point was how weak he was and how dependent he was on God's truth, wisdom, guidance and protection. His point was that sin is not found just in the world where the sinners are. It is also found within the church fellowship where we hear and see the abuse and injustice being committed by both leaders and members.

If we don't first recognise our weakness to sin and our great need for God, we are already in grave danger of falling. Pride can come in the way before the fall! Awareness and prevention is certainly better than cure.

But if we do fall, His grace is still sufficient to forgive! John says, "But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ the righteousness" (1 Jn 2:1)
